Program Review:

Driving a Culture of Continuous Improvement!

Program review represents Sheridan’s commitment to excellence in academic programming and is one of the quality assurance mechanisms underpinning Sheridan’s quality framework. It aims to strengthen the culture of continuous improvement and promote ongoing program enhancement, applying best practices in program review. It provides an opportunity for programs to critically reflect on and engage in a transparent evidence-informed assessment, while collaboratively engaging a diversity of internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, students, graduates, service areas, and industry.

Programs leading to an Ontario College credential undertake regular cyclical reviews in order to recognize and build on the valuable work already being done to promote and support the student learning experience. The goals of program review are to enhance student learning, ensure the alignment of program goals and learning outcomes with Sheridan’s mission and strategic initiatives and to provide data and evidence to support institutional planning, budgeting, and decision-making.

SPARK: The Sheridan Centre for Academic Excellence supports faculty Program Review Teams in navigating the review process and ensuring alignment to provincial quality assurance requirements and standards, including

  • the facilitation of focus groups with faculty and students,
  • providing research on the field of study, industry trends, and academic competitors (environmental scan),
  • liaising with approval bodies; and
  • supporting effective documentation of the process and reflections.
